Attorney Wasser to Speak at UW Master Teacher Institute

I am pleased to announce that I was invited to speak at the 2015 Community College Master Teacher Institute. This event will be held on July 9 and 10, 2015 at the University of Washington Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies.  The program is sponsored by UW, the Northwest International Education Association, the University of Wisconsin, and the Global Business Center at the Michael G. Foster School of Business at the University of Washington.  The theme for the institute is Human Migration and Refugees: Peril and Hope.  My panel will address Immigration Law and the Implications for Business.  The purpose of the institute is to provide networking opportunities for community college teachers and to help them incorporate new information about migration, refugees, and immigrant communities in their international studies teaching and mentoring.

My panel will address the following topics:

  • immigration basics
  • economic motivated immigration
  • business related impacts on local, state and federal economies
  • deficiencies in our current immigration categories and numbers
  • pending legislation
  • Executive Actions related to business immigration

In addition, attendees will have (hopefully) read The Beautiful Things that Heaven Bears by Dinaw Mengetsu, about an Ethiopian immigrant’s life in America as a small business owner and the changes in his neighborhood, relationships, isolation, and nostalgia for home.
